What becomes possible
when conditions are right?
The conditions that let life flourish — from a single person to a whole society.
The Descent — from the Overview Effect to the Overflow Effect
Four hundred kilometres up, the argument ends. There is one system, and it is obviously one system. Every astronaut who has looked down has come back saying a version of the same sentence.
It is not a belief you arrive at. It is a fact you are looking at. The insight is free, immediate and total — and it lasts exactly as long as the view does.
Through the weather, through the noise, into the atmosphere everyone else is already breathing. The view goes. What you saw does not translate itself.
The body is still tired. The family is still the family. The organisation still has its incentives, and none of them changed while you were away. Insight does not survive contact with a depleted system.
Not the seeing. The conditions that let what you saw hold, on the ground, on a Tuesday, in a body and a family and a company and a country.
What trajectory
are you on?
Our greatest challenges are not caused by a lack of resources. They are caused by depletion.
Across luxury, capital, art, and impact — the same pattern appears everywhere. People with immense resources, operating from empty.
A system's trajectory is determined by its degree of nourishment. Depletion compounds. Overflow compounds. A one-degree shift in direction becomes an entirely different destination.
Not optimization. Not self-improvement. Compounding coherence.
When we come from a resourced place, life becomes a game of addition. When we come from depletion, we extract and take in order to fill. The Overflow Effect is the study of the small, daily conditions that compound toward flourishing.
Everything we explore lives across four scales of one life.
The vocabulary changes; the conditions rhyme. That the same conditions hold at every scale is the hypothesis this work is testing — not a law it is asserting.

Resourced
A practical exploration of living from overflow rather than depletion — the personal entry point into the framework, where the philosophy meets a life actually lived.
If The Overflow Effect is the philosophy, Resourced is the doorway. It begins with the individual, because that is where everyone enters.
First to know when it lands — and first in line for a signed copy.
We are building this together.
Not a finished doctrine — a conversation many have been having separately for decades, gathered at last around one question.
What we build on. Most of this has already been proven — in pieces, by people who were not looking at the same picture. Our work is to show that the pieces rhyme.
Harvard Human Flourishing Program
Tyler VanderWeele’s validated domains of flourishing, measured across 22 countries. Its Global Flourishing Study finds that national wealth and reported meaning can move in opposite directions.
HeartMath
Coherence treated as a measurable physiological state rather than a metaphor — the same question asked of one nervous system.
Gross National Happiness
Bhutan has measured the conditions for flourishing at the scale of a country since 1972, and built policy on what it found.
Dark Matter Labs
Indy Johar’s work on the “conditions of possibility” and future optionality — the same enquiry at the largest scale anyone is currently attempting.
Positive psychology · regenerative economics · systems and complexity science · the wisdom traditions
We do not replace any of them. We connect them. We are cartographers of a pattern, not its inventors.
Areas of inquiry where science and ancient wisdom meet:
The same question, asked at every scale:
Some truths are felt before they are understood. We are building a storytelling practice to carry this work into the world — films that move people from overview to overflow. We're seeking filmmakers, film financing, and creative partners who want to make beauty at this scale.
Founding Explorers
Researchers, parents, founders, educators, psychologists, artists, scientists, filmmakers and stewards — anyone who already feels this question inside their own work.
Tell us what you are working on. That is the whole application.
Kayla Rose Bergen
“I spent years moving through luxury, corporate, impact, art, and global communities — and saw the same pattern everywhere: people with immense resources, operating from depletion.”
Kayla Rose Bergen is a researcher, writer, and systems thinker exploring human flourishing in the modern age. Through The Overflow Effect™ and her forthcoming book Resourced, she investigates how individuals, families, organizations, and societies create the conditions for healthier lives, stronger relationships, and a more regenerative future.
Born in Australia and based between New York and the world, her inquiry sits where systems theory, polyvagal science, regenerative economics, and ancient wisdom traditions meet. The Overflow Effect is the bridge she found between them.
